Rental Agreement & Terms of Use

Placeholder — not legal advice. This is original draft text for an early pilot. It must be reviewed and replaced by a qualified Lebanese lawyer before Karwa opens to the public.
1. What Karwa is
Karwa is an online marketplace that connects people who want to rent a car ("guests") with people and companies who list cars ("hosts") in Lebanon. Karwa is not a car-rental company, does not own the vehicles, and is not a party to the rental contract between a host and a guest. Karwa provides the platform that helps the two sides find each other, agree on terms, and keep a record of the booking.
2. Pilot payments
During this pilot, payment for the rental and any security deposit is arranged and settled directly in cash between the host and the guest at hand-over and return. Karwa does not collect or hold these funds and charges no platform fee during the pilot. Amounts shown in the app are estimates to help both sides agree; the final amount is what the host and guest confirm in person.
3. Host responsibilities
Hosts confirm that each car is legally registered, roadworthy, and covered by valid third-party liability insurance for the rental period, and that they have the right to rent it out. Hosts are responsible for the accuracy of their listing and for handing over the car in the described condition.
4. Guest responsibilities
Guests confirm they hold a valid driver's licence, will drive the car lawfully and only within Lebanon unless agreed otherwise, and will return it on time in the condition received, aside from normal wear. Guests are responsible for fines, tolls, and any damage caused during the trip.
5. Deposits & damage
The security deposit is a cash amount the guest leaves with the host at pick-up and that the host returns at drop-off, less any agreed deductions for damage, fuel, fines, or late return. Disputes about the deposit are resolved directly between host and guest; Karwa may help by sharing the booking record.
6. Cancellations
Each booking follows the cancellation policy shown at the time of booking. Because the pilot is cash-based, no money changes hands through Karwa, so cancelling a booking in the app simply releases the dates.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Karwa is not responsible for the condition of any car, the conduct of any host or guest, or any loss, injury, or damage arising from a rental. The rental is an agreement between the host and the guest.
8. Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent to the Karwa team through the in-app chat or the contact details provided at sign-up.
